Online Therapy - Atlanta, New York, & Portland, Maine

It is normal to have questions about therapy. And helpful to have some guidance about what to expect. Here are some common questions we get from potential clients. If you don’t find the answers to your questions here, click here to send an email or schedule a consult.

  • Kim Austin sees clients in Georgia both in-person and via telehealth. Additionally, she sees clients via telehealth only in New York and Maine.

For in-person clients in the Atlanta area, sessions are held at 1123 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30032.

Jesse Schweppe sees clients in Georgia via telehealth.

Online sessions are held on a secure HIPAA compliant platform. You can access our sessions via computer, tablet, or smartphone.

  • Standard sessions are 50 minutes. We offer 75 and 90 minute sessions when longer sessions are likely to be more effective, convenient or helpful for the client.

  • This depends.

For most clients seeking therapy, we recommend meeting weekly for at least the first few months. This provides the opportunity to build a solid therapeutic relationship and understand your goals. We find, and research shows, that meeting weekly improves outcomes. Meeting less frequently is often less effective and economical in the long run.

After 3-4 months of meeting weekly, we will review our progress and determine a schedule that is most helpful to you. Often that means continuing to meet weekly or every other week.

  • This depends on your goals and the nature of the issues we are addressing

We see most individual clients an average of 30 to 50 sessions in total— or about 8 to 12 months. Many clients find longer term therapy helpful and engage in therapy for years. Everyone’s needs are different.

Clients seeking to process a single incident trauma like a car accident may be able to achieve results within 4-8 sessions.

Performance/Creative Enhancement work also tends to be shorter term, 3-6 sessions. However, length of treatment depends on many factors; personal history, current stressors, and other factors. Everyone is unique and there is no set timeframe to one individual’s healing. We will regularly monitor progress and explore what is working and what is not.

For couples, we typically expect to meet for 10 to 30 sessions. Factors determining the number of required sessions include the nature of current relationship challenges and the past relationship experiences of both couple members.

  • Everyone can benefit from therapy. And if you are asking this question, it is probably a good time to try therapy. We frequently hear from clients that they wish they’d come to therapy sooner. If you are struggling or feeling like “there must be something more to life” then give yourself the benefit of exploring therapy.

Couples often seek out therapy when things are very difficult and this can extend the time required to resolve their problems. We encourage mental health and relationship “check ups”.

If you are still unsure, email us or schedule a consult to discuss further.

  • Yes, research shows that online counseling is as effective as in person. We observed this in our practice long before COVID.

And, yes, all of the therapies we use, including Brainspotting, EMDR, and couples therapy, can be done effectively via video. Online therapy is also incredibly convenient, with no travel or parking headaches.

  • Consult your therapist’s About page for complete information about their fees. Click here for Jesse Schweppe’s fees.

As required by the No Surprises Act, a Good Faith Estimate is provided at the start of treatment and any time the fee changes.

  • We are not contracted as in-network providers with any health insurance companies.

If you would like to use your health insurance for sessions, your therapist may be able to provide you with a Superbill (basically, a detailed receipt) as an out of network (OON) provider. If you have OON benefits, you may be able to submit the Superbill for partial reimbursement. You will need to call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and ask if you have out of network (OON) benefits and, if so, what the benefits cover (be sure to ask about deductibles etc.).

  • Kim Austin is currently able to see clients living in Georgia, New York, or Maine. Jesse Schweppe can only see clients who live in Georgia.

Under current licensing laws, a therapist can only provide services to clients in the states where they are licensed.

  • Jesse Schweppe sees clients on the weekend, in addition to week days.

We do not offer evening appointments.

See your therapists About page for more information on their schedule.

  • Brainspotting Consultation Sessions (50 minutes) are $165.

Consultation towards Brainspotting Certification requires a minimum of six 50 minute sessions.
