Online Psychotherapy in New York

You feel anxious, irritable, and preoccupied more than you would like. Sometimes things feel okay and then suddenly they don’t. Life in New York is stressful but you find yourself overreacting to the smallest things. Then you feel confused and guilty. Just when you think you have let go of those outdated negative beliefs, the old story replays in your mind. You feel so frustrated that you can’t seem to let go of unhelpful patterns. Others see you as successful, “having it together” but, yet doesn’t feel that way. Beneath the surface of things you feel tension, a sense of unease that feels related to the past. Why can’t you “just get over it” so you can feel better and live life more fully?

You are ready for a real change

You’ve tried so many things to feel better; meditation, exercise, listened to a million podcasts, Tried plenty of traditional psychotherapy…this is New York City after all. All these things helped…a little. You have more understanding, some tools to manage the anxiety but things haven’t really changed. You have so much insight but, are still anxious, reactive and stuck in the same old ruts. You want to experience more lightness and ease; to feel more alignment between your head, heart, and gut.

My name is Kim, I am an EMDR and Brainspotting therapist in New York and I Can Help

Kim Austin, LCSW Brainspotting & EMDR therapist in New York City. Specializing in Anxiety, Trauma, Couple’s Therapy

I am a psychotherapist and Certified Brainspotting and EMDR psychotherapy practitioner providing online therapy in New York. For almost two decades, I have been using my skills, intuition, and a bit of humor to help people find greater clarity, self-understanding, and freedom. I frequently utilize neuroscientifically informed therapies, Brainspotting and EMDR trauma therapies, to help people resolve internal conflicts and recover from past trauma and PTSD.

I have worked in a range of settings and populations ranging from community based non-profits to Fortune 500 companies in New York City, Boston, and Maine. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked for Internet start-ups and in digital marketing in New York City. After receiving my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work, City University of New York (CUNY), I worked at Henry Street Settlement on the Lower East Side, Safe Horizon’s 9/11 Survivor’s Project downtown, Hunter College Employee Assistance Program (EAP) on the Upper East Side, and for Harrison Rothenberg’s EAP on Wall Street. These experiences provided me a unique perspective on various workplace, career, social, and mental health issues.

All are welcomed in my practice. I seek to create a safe and inclusive environment for all sexual identities, expressions, and relationship styles. I am committed to antiracism, personally and professionally. The negative impacts of prejudice, bias, and colorblindness on mental health are profound. Racial trauma is real. I strive to be affirming and responsive to the needs and experiences of all clients.
