When Everything Suddenly Changed

In a moment, life became unrecognizable. Things were “normal” and then they weren’t and it has shocked your foundation, sense of yourself and the world. You are OK but, you don’t feel OK. The thing or event happened and left you in shock. Perhaps it was a car accident, a medical scare, a sudden loss…it doesn't feel like it is ever going to be over.

It doesn’t feel like it is over…

You may or may not have physically recovered but, you are still experiencing the mental trauma, emotional, and psychological shock of the event. Simple things you used to do every day like getting in a car, going near a certain place, even trusting your own body are no longer simple and can trigger anxiety, panic or a replay of upsetting images. You don’t feel like yourself and the world feels different.

How you feel shifts rapidly

Some days you feel completely numb, and others you might feel everything super intensely. It feels like you are on guard and waiting for the other shoe to drop. The people around you just don’t get why you aren’t “over it” since you are safe now. And this only makes you feel worse. At the same time you feel like you are experiencing an existential crisis; questioning your spiritual beliefs. You truly wonder if you will ever get your life back. You just want to feel like yourself again.
